Food Eat In Kepong

Best Restaurants & Food to Eat in Kepong. DOUBLE SEVEN NIGHT ‘DAI CHAO' 孖柒夜市大炒. Double Seven's dai chao stall has been our go-to place for whenever we feel like having a proper meal, yet won't put a dent in the wallet.

The Fish Head Curry here is a favorite of mine and it's also available in Toman fish slices. For RM20 you get a generous serving with loads of vege thrown in, so much so that you don't even need to order a separate vege dish. Other recommended dishes include lemon chicken, salted egg squid and kangkung belacan. Restoran Double Seven, Jalan 3/36, Taman Sri Bintang.

Hon Kei Food Corner

Hon Kei Food Corner (汉记小食店) is where we had our last day breakfast here in Georgetown, Penang. Hon Kei Food Corner is popular for its pork noodle, fish head noodle and porridge. For noodle, you can choose from vermicelli, thick noodles, thin noodles, mixed noodles.

For the soup, you can choose from Bitter Gourd or Salted Vege soup. Hon Kei Food Corner is a very new and clean shop. It is previously a stall in Ho Ping Coffee Shop at the junction of Penang Road and Jalan Kampong Malabar according to Now Eating. It is very spacious and comfortable to eat here.

Bendemeer Food Centre Stall

Address: Blk 29 Bendemeer Food Centre Stall 29, 29 Bendemeer Road 330029, Singapore 330029 Fish Curry $4.70 Their fish curry here is good too. The rempah, which they prepare themselves every week by frying over a slow fire over many hours forms the base for all the curries. When they cook the fish curry, they use a different spice blend and add tamarind for a bit of tang.

I didn't try their curry fish head but their fish curry is very good. It is a cross between the lemak (rich, coconutty) version and the assam (tangy) version which is, again, what I like. Their curry fish head sells out pretty early in the day too.

Old Klang Road

Fatty Bak Kut Teh & Steamed Fish Head You may pass a debilitated trio of daichow-like stalls as you speed down Old Klang Road. Our advice: stop and sup instead. Previously open from six in the evening till 5am, they've now extended their opening hours to accommodate the early-risers.

Each is a different station: one stall takes care of the bak kut teh, another the stir-fry dishes, and the third their famous Cantonese-style steamed fish head. Overseeing the entire operation is a rather rotund gentleman (usually clad in a white singlet) from whom the shop gets its unmistakably accurate name: Fatty Bak Kut Teh & Steamed Fish Head. The fish head (RM30 and above) is available three different ways: steamed with ginger, soy sauce or cili padi.

Yong Tau Fu

Located at the popular PJ Old Town Food Court, Seong Kee is the no. 35 stall that offers a wide variety of dishes, including Yong Tau Fu, Curry Fish Head, and Fried Chicken Wings.

Many patrons like to come here for their famous fried chicken wings, which are served with a pair of chicken wings that are chopped into halves. The chicken wings are well marinated with a secret flour mixture that makes the chicken wings not only fragrant and delicious, but also very crispy.

Fish Head Noodles

The restaurant is just adjacent to the Atria shopping mall. Very busy all the time especially during the weekends. Understandably so as the noodles served here are really yummy.

The ones recommended are fish head noodles and the claypot loh shi fun. The loh shi fun comes with lots of crunchy minced pork garnishing and you have to stir to 'cook' it a little before serving. Apart from these two, there are other dishes to try. A must try hidden gem.
