Place Go
If you're looking for a hearty Christmas brunch, this The Marmalade Pantry, Singapore is the place to go. There is a modern, contemporary vibe to Oasia Hotel's outlet which I find refreshing compared to overdone cafe-style decor. Another bonus would be escaping the claustrophobic Christmas crowds on Orchard road! This meal was love at first bite. The thick and creamy Bourbon Pumpkin Soup with Ricotta & Chestnut Ravioli ($10) is truly comfort food for the soul, with the ravioli's ricotta cheese bursting inside your mouth for deliciously cheesy bite.

Really Good

Really Good
Naughty Nuri's Balinese Cumit Cumit RM 22. Seriously this was really good and unique. We couldn't guess what is this at first, because it was really hard to poke it. But when you put inside your mouth and noms it, it was super nice and crispy. Guess what it was actually SQUID! Squids from Bali because the size and type of squid is different than we normally eat it locally. Although you say does it not feel thirsty at all, eating all crispy and deep fried food, frankly it does not.

Hong Kong Hot Pot

Hong Kong Hot Pot
Hong Kong Hot Pot, Bangsar. Pumpkin soup & Sakura pork bone soup. We had the sakura pork bone soup and the pumpkin soup (RM30 – per pot), which is slightly on the higher price point but both the broths are good. I have yet to try their ma la soup so that warrants another visit. The décor is fashioned to feel as though you're in Hong Kong, minus the part where the waiter passes you the bill as an indication to “get out” once you're done with your meal.

Chocolate Peanut Butter
Who ever goes to the Marmalade Pantry, Singapore without trying their desserts? Their Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake ($12) and Banana Fosters Crepe ($12) are good choices. Their handmade peanut butter ice cream deserves a special mention; I felt like I was eating peanut butter in ice cream form, if that makes sense.

White Wine
Marmalade Pantry, Singapore. The Braised Veal Cheek ($34) was exceedingly fragrant and falls apart nicely, having been braised with white wine, veal juice and cinnamon for 4-6 hours. However, what impressed me most was the pomme puree (finely milled potatoes folded with cream, butter and truffle oil), which was so yummy I found myself wishing I could ask the chef for seconds.

Can't Go Wrong
Village Park Nasi Lemak - If you're looking for a hearty and satisfying breakfast you really can't go wrong with nasi lemak, and you can't go wrong with Village Park. The “nasi lemak” (rice infused with coconut milk) is light and fluffy and the sambal is flavourful and slightly sweet, but the star on the plate is without a doubt, the chicken. The chicken is marinated with a host of spices and then deep fried to perfection with a crispy skin and moist, juicy flesh.
