Proton Ertiga has a Four-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, and comes with only dual front Airbags, ISOFIX with a Top Tether for baby seats and ABS with EBD and also reverse sensors. What won't be found is an Electronic Stability Control system, which makes the Ertiga the only model in Proton's current range to not have this safety feature.

What is good to note is that while the Ertiga can accomodate 7-passengers, it is a 6-seater MPV as there are only 6-seatbelts available.

The Carnival has most of the safety gear demanded by today's buyers. All models came standard with dual front airbags and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, but the EX-L had the added safety of head and side front airbags.

The best of all was the Premium, which also had electronic stability control. The only downside was the lack of three-point seat belts in the centre seating positions in the second and third rows.

If you can look past the brand for used MPV, go have a look at the Chery Eastar. Quite well equipped, 2.0 NA, quite spacious, fuel consumption average.

Test drive it and you might be surprised. This used MPV can be bought at price range starting RM70k. Features include a sunroof, electronic headlamp levelling, dual front airbags, anti-lock disc brakes on all four wheels, electronic brake distribution as well as an option for a stability control program that comes at extra cost.

But what's still to be proven is whether or not the Sedona's structure has been reinforced for better crash-test performance; the 2012 Sedona earned a 'poor' score from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in their roof strength test. On the other hand, in a recent federal test, the Sedona earned an excellent five stars.
