Toast Box Hainanese Kaya with Honey
$4.20 a jar (250g). From Toast Box outlets, including #01-67 Bugis Junction, tel: 6333-4464.
Its coarse and grainy texture made it hard to spread. But we're willing to overlook that because it smelt heavenly thanks to the sweet honey flavour, and it had a nice coconut taste.
Adam weighs in: "This kaya has a thick, almost caramel-like appeal that I love. It isn't too sweet, so I can eat more of it."

Restoran G Cheong Fun

Restoran G Cheong Fun
Restoran G Cheong Fun in Johor. This restaurant offer all my favorite food when I am kids. such as Yam Cake. This beautifully presented yam cake was of the more course version, with a more grainy texture. Despite that, the yam flavors were also far more intense. Garnished with fried shallots and spring onions, this rustic and wholesome dish would make the perfect local breakfast meal anytime.

Soy Milk

Soy Milk
This ‘Dae-Dan-Han Kong' drink (which basically translates to ‘Incredible Bean') isn't so much ‘soy milk' as it is just blended up, unsweetened soybeans. You can definitely taste beaniness here, and you can even feel the thick and sort of grainy texture of the blended soy beans. At first I did not enjoy this, but now it has grown on me.

TOAST BOX
Kaya French Toast (RM3.60)
We were so busy being #asiansatwork that the butter melted already. XD This is a rendition of the HK-style French toast; bread fried in oil and paired with butter, kaya and honey drizzled on top. I don't usually fancy toast like these as I find I get sick from eating too much... Jelak, you know? This is not as thick as other french toast and it's not as oily, so I found myself actually enjoying this! Of course, it only tastes super good if you eat it while it's hot.

Make Good Choice

Make Good Choice
Also they had a nice vinyl pattern that was simple and modern of four inch squares in shades of gray. The laminate counter top is by Wilsonart and is a medium charcoal gray with tiny interlocking squares in a lighter shade of gray and will look slightly retro but still fresh and contemporary at a decent price. So in the midst of last night's drama my friends helped me go through all the selections and make a good choice.

Gula Melaka Syrup

Gula Melaka Syrup
Chendol @ Jalan Macalister, Penang. Chendol – Shaved ice drenched in coconut milk and gula melaka syrup; topped with red beans and green jelly. The ice was finely shaved, no clumpy blocks that we get back home. The owner still uses the hand roll contraception from the good ol'days to shave the ice. The coconut milk and gula melaka combined to achieve just the right amount of sweetness. The red beans were extremely fresh, full of flavour and not hard at all. The green jelly had a nice chewy texture to it. Definitely one of the better chendols I've tried.

High Heat
We had to quickly get the plain rice on our table once the hot dishes came. First came the Pucuk Paku Sambal (RM13/18) and the Thai-style Chicken (RM18/28). While I couldn't quite discern much sambal in the puck paku, the ferns were well tossed in high heat so the leaves had that nice sheen and were still crunchy.
