The retort pouch–packed prod-cut needs significantly less heat than cans to achieve commercial sterility, with cooking time and energy costs reduced by half. Heat penetrates the food much more quickly when it only has to reach the inside of a half-inch-thick mass rather than the much thicker mass in around can.

Milling has several advantages over other manufacturing processes. It is cost effective for short runs. Complex shapes and high dimensional tolerances are possible.

Smooth finishes can be achieved. CNC milling can produce almost any 2D or 3D shape provided that the rotating cutting tools can reach the material to be removed. Examples of parts include engine components, mold tooling, complex mechanisms, enclosures, etc.

Flexible pouches are a beautiful packaging format. It's time for the flexible packaging industry to seriously start the implementation of proper recycling facilities for the packaging format they dump on the market.

Is there somebody who can tell me why the manufacturers of glass bottles and jars, PET bottles, beverage cartons, alu and steel beverage cans, corrugated and solid paperboard packaging, are in one way or another engaged in recycling processes and activities related to the respective products they sell in the market.

Rigid Packaging vs. Flexible Packaging. Flexible packaging lowered weight means lowered space requirements, which translates to lowered transportation costs.

The space savings offered by flexible relative to rigids is enormous, especially when considering unfilled or empty packages. A processor may purchase pouches in a number of different forms. The flexible pouches can be a pre-formed three-side sealed pouch or formed as an in-line operation with the filling and sealing combined in a pouch packager.

There are several retort pouch filling and sealing systems commercially available. One design is shown in figure 2.3, where the retort pouches are formed from roll stock by folding a single roll along its centerline and heat sealing the sides together.
