Voila! This is the most gigantic bread I've ever made! ^0^ Doesn't it looks familiar to you? I did not know until now that Malaysia Kampar town has this dish which is similar to our local one known as Golden Pillow 金枕头 :D I've actually tasted this dish once like 10 years ago! Nothing special to the taste, except it looks more attractive in the presentation by wrapping the cooked curry chicken inside the sweet bread.

Kampar Curry Chicken Bread
Kampar Curry Chicken Bread
Kampar curry chicken bread is a kind of bread..big loaf of bread stuffed with probably half a chicken inside. It is the invention from Kampar, another town located in the state of Perak. I remember that it was such a hit among the locals and tourists when it was first introduced and people would queiung up to try this delicacy.
It looks quite an ordinary bread besides its gigantic size but when you cut the bread open, you will find these delicious curry chicken wrapped in parchment paper or aluminium foil inside the bread. Unlike the normal curry chicken buns, the filling has to be wrapped with paper or foil otherwise the curry gravy would leak out from the dough and i dont think we can actually shape the dough without wrapping the chicken first.

Hahaha... I've tried to shape it in a rectangle shape like a pillow, but alas it turned out rather round and flat >.< Nevertheless the bread looks pretty nice to me, golden hue and the texture is soft too! I think this is great to serve at the dining table! Imagine everyone gather round the table and start tearing the bread apart and dipping into the creamy and flavourful curry! ^.^

Kampar Curry Chicken Bread @ Kam Ling Restaurant
Anyway, we decided to embark on a short, day trip to Teluk Intan in the southern region of the state of Perak. I wrote about Teluk Intan only once in my blog, if I recall correctly. That was when we visited Keng Heng Coffee Shop in town for breakfast, then lunch at Lana Tea House. But of course, I neglected the urge to write about the repeated visits to the town famous for the iconic leaning tower (yup, don't go thinking ONLY Italy has one) right smack in town centre, the incomparable Teluk Intan Chee Cheong Fun, and fresh seafood supplied by its neighbouring town of Hutan Melintang. (Read about our lunch at Men Lok Seafood @ Hutan Melintang)

Kampar Curry Chicken Bun
A peak into the bun! Curry with soft, fluffy bun is just too tasty! To make this, you need to cook chicken curry and wrapped them in sweet bread dough. You can use your own favorite recipes for them but here I am sharing a speedy recipe for the curry and a bread dough recipe which one can either hand knead or use a breadmaker.

Kampar Curry Chicken Bun
Kampar Curry Chicken Bun
One last post for MFF Perak. This bun was made popular in Kampar hence the name Kampar Curry Chicken Bun. The uniqueness of it is there is a curry chicken parcel wrapped inside the bun. To eat it, one will have to tear/cut open the bun, unwrapped the parcel then dip the bun into the curry and eat it with the chicken. I have made this a couple of times (and posted it too) and it's always very well received by family members and friends. We usually have it for dinner.
I normally make it in portions for individual serving whereas for the real mccoy it is one giant bun with most probably half a chicken in it to be shared out. Imagine the size of the bun! To get an idea of it, do hop by my friend Lena's place.

There were all together 6 choice pieces of chicken meat in the bread and the thick curry gravy was cooked in Indian style with lots of curry leaves. This new discovery was indeed appetizing. The chicken meat was tender and the spiciness of the curry was just right. One loaf of this dish would be enough to feed two to three person as the bread can be rather filling.Finding the stall would not be hard. Walk into Petaling Street, Chinatown's main entrance from Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (opposite Kota Raya) and you will reach a crossed junction.
