Light Laptops Won't Weigh You

Best Ultrabook: top thin and light laptops that won't weigh you down Dell's revamped XPS 13 has a nearly borderless display and a very small body for a 13-inch laptop, plus the latest Intel CPUs. Upgrades can get expensive; a touchscreen isn't included by default; the boost from the new CPU is minimal.

This new Dell XPS 13 is the first great laptop of 2015, but it owes that title more to a smart design revamp than Intel's new processors.

Intel Core I7

Dell XPS 13 (2015) The new Dell XPS 13 is close to perfect. It is an immaculately crafted piece of technology and the best ultrabook I have tried this year. While Windows ultra-thin laptops were originally made to compete with Apple's MacBook Air, the latest XPS 13 makes the Air look stodgy. Slimmer and lighter than the 13-inch MacBook Air, the XPS 13 also has a smaller footprint.

It is about the size of a laptop with a 12-inch screen, but has a 13-inch display. It is the screen - bright, vivid and almost borderless - that is the XPS 13's standout feature. Dell said the bezel is 5.2mm thick, but it looks to me as if someone simply outlined the display with a black marker. Inside the XPS 13 is a new fifth-generation Intel Core i7 chip. Though more capable than the low-powered Intel Core M

Long Battery Life

Dell XPS 13 is powerful too. Since it runs on Intel's newest processors, it boots up quickly and offers long battery life. With mixed usage, which included browsing the web, doing light work in Google Drive, and streaming content from Netflix, the laptop lasted for about nine hours. That's impressive, especially since I had to leave the display brightness at its highest setting during the majority of the time I used it.

The glossy screen can sometimes produce glare, and the keyboard could be better. That's about it. XPS 13 is one of the best you can buy. If you want a 13-inch screen, this is the smallest laptop you'll find with a display of that size. it's one of the only Windows laptops that can stand up to the MacBook Air in terms of sheer looks.

Dell Xps 13

Dell XPS 13 (2016) Now that Intel's sixth-generation Skylake processors are out, manufacturers have begun to roll out the latest convertibles and ultrabooks packed with the latest hardware in full force. Thanks to Skylake's improved power efficiency, this means faster machines that last for even longer, all wrapped up in slimmer and more attractive packages than before.

This also means that the playing field is remarkably similar, with the vast majority of ultrabooks sporting the same processors and similar memory and storage configurations.

Dell Xps 13

Dell XPS 13 (2015, Nontouch) It's not a 4K or a quad-HD panel, but I was more than satisfied with the 1080-pixel panel on my review configuration of the XPS 13. While it has a somewhat shallow travel of 1.3 mm (1.5 is typical of most notebooks), the XPS 13 remained as delightful as ever when I was typing.

Its backlit, chiclet-style keyboard was snappy and responsive. Instead of the Mini DisplayPort on the previous version of the XPS 13, this model has a Thunderbolt 3 port on the left, which can be used not just to connect peripherals such as USB drives, but can also be used to connect to compatible displays. http://geni.us/DellXPS13Nontouch15OR

Dell Xps 13

Dell XPS 13 2015 With the release of the latest XPS Ultrabook, Dell has suddenly become cool again. This is mainly down to the jaw dropping Infinity Display, which boasts a QHD+ resolution and a crazy, almost, bezelless design.

Having such thin bezels and taking advantage of Intel's new Broadwell processors let Dell cram a full 13-inch laptop into the body of an 11-inch one, making this one of the most compact ultrabooks on the market. Dell has updated its models with Intel's sixth-generation Skylake processor, which is expected to deliver a modest performance (and a slightly bigger battery life) boost. They feature Windows 10, 8GB RAM, Dual Band WiFi and the typical array of ports, though you can pony up a little more cash to upgrade from the 256GB SSD to a larger 512GB version.
