Lower Thread Count

If you are looking at a BIFL purchase on sheets you actually want a somewhat lower thread count (300-400) because the threads are thicker and sturdier. Go with white and 100% cotton as those can be bleached repeatedly to keep them looking good longer.

Any decent department store will have a nice selection and you can go in and feel them and decide on which brand/thread count you prefer. And I second that good sheets are "expensive" but its a case of you get what you pay for in that better sheets last a lot longer than cheap ones.

Quality Bed Sheets Often Conveyed

The quality of bed sheets is often conveyed by the thread count—the number of threads per square inch of material. In general, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheet, but the weave and type of thread may affect the "hand" of the material so that a sheet with a lower thread count may actually be softer than one with a higher count.

Yarn quality also plays a part in the look and feel of sheets, as finer yarns tend to create a finer sheet fabric. The ply also plays a role in how heavy the sheet feels.

High Thread Count

Don't get satin sheets. Your fukin pillows will slide around and you will get pissed off, plus it's hard to get traction during sex. Just get some cheap cotton sheets and you'll be fine.

Thread count is a bit decieving. A set of sheets can have a very high thread count but not be as soft as a set with a lower thread count. The only way to be sure you are getting the best cotton out there is to head over to a bed bath and beyond and rip open some packages to cop a feel. Also look online for unbias reviews, some sets get softer the more you wash.

Highest Thread Count

Have tried all sorts of brands from Target to Macy's to Hotel Collection at Bed, Bath Beyond for $200 set and I think the best deal is Ralph Lauren sheets. They don't pill EVER and stay soft.

Get the highest thread count you can, but even the lower thread count Lauren sheets don't pill. I get mine on eBay and overstock.com. TJ Maxx, Ross etc can carry them too but it's hard to find basic colors at those stores.

Bedsheets The Most Important Thing

Julia B. Linens. “Bedsheets are the most important thing in the whole world. You spend a third of your life in bed, so good sheets should be like buying a couture dress they're worth the investment. I happen to like really fine cotton percale; it launders beautifully, it's cool.

Other cottons aren't as cool and I just don't like satin sheets. I happen to love Julia B linens. It's really high-end 800-count cotton percale. She does couture linens with beautiful monograms and embroidery all done by hand. It's absolutely beautiful.”
