HP has introduced the redesigned HP ENVY 15 notebook PC. The notebook is touted to sport all-metal chassis with rounded edges in a classic black and silver finish, and accented by subtle red details.

The ENVY15 features the Radiance Backlit keyboard that provides illumination using individual LEDs dedicated to each keycap. The device is powered by Intel Core i7-2670QM clocked at 2.2 GHz, and runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64.

The HP Envy 15 is a budget laptop computer that offers a good mix of performance and features. It's not the best laptop you can buy, but it might be one of the best inexpensive laptops, with solid construction and a decent feature set.

This laptop comes equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM. The unit we evaluated was outfitted with a Core i7-6700HQ processor, but it can be equipped with everything from an Intel Core i5-5200U on up to other Core i7 processors. An Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M provides graphics horsepower, while a 1TB hard drive offers lots of storage space.

The HP Envy 15 laptop has aluminum construction with a bare-metal finish, measuring 14.94 x 9.87 x 1.1 inches and weighing 5.06 pounds. That's both thick and heavy when compared to lightweight laptops like ultrabooks, but mainstream laptops such as those we've reviewed here aren't necessarily designed for ultra portability.

On the left side of the laptop is a wealth of connections, with two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port for video and audio output, an SD card slot and an Ethernet jack.

HP covers the Envy 15 with a one-year warranty and offers several ways to reach support, with personnel available via phone, social media and live chat through HP's website. Laptop Mag rates HP's customer service fourth out of 10 brands surveyed.

The HP Envy 15 laptop has a unique hinge design that serves as a stand to prop up the back end of the laptop during use, a move that improves airflow and cooling, and also sets the keyboard at a more comfortable angle. It's the sort of design element that would be out of place on a smaller laptop – it would be uncomfortable to use on an actual lap – but since 15-inch systems are generally stationary and used on tables and desks, it's a nice addition.

While these have become less common on laptops in general, the 15-inch design provides ample room for the drive, and it's a welcome addition for anyone who needs to retrieve data from an old CD or DVD. The laptop has a backlit keyboard, complete with 10-key pad for easy number entry. A multitouch trackpad sits below the spacebar, and a fingerprint reader is on the bottom-right of the palmrest.

The 15-inch laptop has a touch screen, letting you take advantage of all the touch-enabled functions of Windows 10. HP bucks the trend toward 4K resolutions with only HD (1366 x 768) and Full HD (1920 x 1080) display configurations available, and both use twisted-nematic (TN) panels instead of the sharper IPS displays used on more expensive competitors from other top laptop brands.

The display may not do well in comparison to other laptops, but the HP Envy 15 has a better audio setup than most, boasting Bang & Olufsen sound with four speakers and an integrated subwoofer.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime ships with a 5.5 inch PLS TFT panel. The display has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 401.

Additionally, the display is also coated in Corning Gorilla Glass thus making it very resistant. The device is powered by Samsung's own octa-core Exynos 7870 processor. The chipset has been clocked at 1.6GHz and it's been coupled with a Mali-T830MP2 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM.
