Laminate flooring are made mostly from High Density Fibreboard (HDF). The boards are topped with an ultra-realistic photographic layer, which is then coated and sealed in with a tough, scratch resistant surface.

The photographic layer is what gives the floors its particular look, so laminate boards can appear to be made from any type of wood or even stone. This is what makes laminate floors incredibly versatile when it comes to design.

Most laminate flooring consists of a moisture resistant layer under a layer of HDF (high density fibreboard). This is topped with a high resolution photographic image of natural wood.

It is then finished with an extremely hard, clear coating made from a special resin coated protection layer.

Laminate flooring durability comes from the four layers that make up the laminate and have been bonded together with high pressure machines. The Backing Layer provides stability and moisture repellent balance, as well as being a protective barrier between the sub-floor and the laminate core.

Moving up through the laminate we then reach the Core Layer. It's the centre panel that provides the structural durability. Made of very compact wood fibres and resins, the High Density Fibreboard (HDF) is strong and more durable than MDF.
